Roy Jones is a former lawyer and senior advisor who serves family enterprises and owners. Over the course of his career Roy has worked with multiple high net worth families and individuals to help plan, structure and manage their family offices, estate planning and administration, investments, private foundations, and entrepreneurial activities. Roy draws from his extensive experience to listen to people with compassion and wisdom, distill the unique nature of their personal and business challenges, and to help define goals and strategic direction. He prides himself most on the friendships he has built through his career–relationships which far outlast each engagement. Throughout his career, Roy has served on the Boards of multiple private companies and nonprofit entities. He currently serves as a Director and Investment Committee Member for the Herschend Family Entertainment Family Office; as a coach/mentor for the 4th generation emerging leader of a $1.2BBL annual revenues family enterprise; as a Board member of the Owens Group International; and as a Board member and the investment committees for two families who sold their businesses. He also serves on the SEFOF Advisory committee and as a Trustee of the Eagle Ranch Foundation. From 2014 to 2019, Roy served Chick-fil-A, Inc. as the Executive Director of the Cathy Family Office. He was recruited by Dan Cathy, the Chairman and CEO, to build a team to serve both the family’s multiple households and Chick-fil-A, Inc. The team that Roy built and led provided financial, accounting, income tax, estate planning and administration services to the Cathy family. His team also helped structure and oversee family and private foundation governance, real property and investment management, and risk management. While at Chick-fil-A, Roy also served as the captain of a “Dream Team” comprised of internal leaders and external consultants, charged with delivering a comprehensive plan and structure for Chick-fil-A to remain privately owned by the Cathy Family for generations to come. From 2004 to 2014, Roy was a founding Director of three private equity funds. With those funds, he built on the experience he had gained as a founding member of both the Advisory and Investment Committees of Greenspring Associates, a Baltimore-based PE fund that now manages over $10BBL of committed capital. Roy initially practiced law for 14 years with a firm that he co-founded. His practice specialized in commercial real estate transactions and development, private equity, estate planning, deal structure, and finance. In the last several years of his legal career, Roy began to function as primary advisor to several extraordinary families and gained intimate exposure to the inner workings of private companies, successful families, and intergenerational planning. These experiences led Roy to stop practicing law and dedicate his time to family-owned businesses. From 1998 to 2004, Roy led the Family Office of Henry F. “Hank” McCamish by serving as the Chief Investment Officer, Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel of the McCamish Group, and also as President of the McCamish Foundation. Roy is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Washington and Lee University and holds a Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law. At Emory, Roy was on the Law Review, graduated with distinction, and received Order of the Coif honors. He was admitted to practice before The Supreme Court of the United States of America in 2000. A native Atlantan, Roy married his best friend and college sweetheart, Carter, more than 40 years ago. They have two grown sons and worship at The Church of the Apostles. Roy leads a weekly bible study where he mentors millennial men and also enjoys hiking, shotguns, and cooking on his Big Green Egg.
